We all know that workouts can be hard on your skin and hair just as much as they are on your body. With that in mind we wanted to give our readers some tips and tricks or keeping your locks fresh and your skin clean during your workout and beyond.
While Working Out
Put your best “clean” face forward
Skip the makeup if you can. Besides blocking your pores, makeup can also create a non breathable layer on top of your skin that keeps the natural sweat created during your workout from being released.
Pro tip – Face wipes are a great, fast and economical way to cleanse your face of any makeup prior to your workout.
Try not to touch your face too much while working out and if you must, make sure to use a clean towel and pat, do not rub. This goes for the skin on the rest of your body as well, rubbing can be too harsh, especially on sensitive skin.
Now about that hair
If you aren’t getting hot and heavy during our workout, chances are you aren’t doing it right and that’s a whole other blog post for you. If you are planning to build up a sweat, get that hair up and off your face. Our best bets are the no tangle elastic hair ties with a headband to catch any strays.
Post Work Out
Face wipes are still a great gym companion, if you do not have time to wash your face or take a shower, be sure to gently use some face wipes to clean your skin. If you do have the chance to wash your face, gentle is again the key word and use a simple but effective easily rinseable cleanser.
Pro tip – Facial sprays come in all shapes and sizes these days and are a great way to refresh your skin after a workout.
As we mentioned above, if you are doing it right, your hair is going to get sweaty. If you aren’t able to wash your hair post workout, try to keep a bottle of dry shampoo in your gym bag to soak up the oil and residue and help you feel more refreshed leaving the gym, especially if you are on the go. If you do not have any dry shampoo, a tiny sprinkle of baby powder lightly tousled through your mane can also soak up excess oil and sweat.
Remember your skin and hair need to stay hydrated! You just worked out, so one of the best things you can do for your hair and your skin post workout is drink up! And we mean water.
A change of clothes. Yes you did just sweat inside your workout wear, so bring a fresh pair of clothes to change into to minimize any body breakouts sweat or heat rash.
