Since the Labor Day means a little extra help with travel plans, we decided to release September’s “Be Here Now” Series as we roll into August. With the sweet and hot smell of summer almost behind us, what better way to welcome fall than a round-up of some of our favorite festivals and retreats to visit.
Electric Zoo 2017 September 1-3 NYC, NY
Never one to miss a chance to visit the big apple (especially over Labor Day weekend), Electric Zoo has been entertaining festival goers since 2009. Each year has a theme and this year’s 9th annual New York edition is “The 6th Boro”, playing on the 5 boroughs of the city that never sleeps. With four stages and 3 days of music, art, pre and post parties (even one named Sunday School), if you can make it here you can make it anywhere.
Hopscotch Festival September 7-10 Raleigh, NC
Returning to downtown Raleigh almost every year since its inception in 2010, Hopscotch offers revelers a chance to enjoy almost a dozen different venues around town and has a reputation for adventurous line ups and has been labeled one of the most eclectic festivals in the US. Musical acts run the gamut from hip-hop to folk and almost 20% of the performers are locally sourced. There is even a design element gathering artists and creatives from all over the globe.
KAABOO September 15-17 San Diego, CA
Billed as everything your usual festival is not, KAABOO prides itself as an “adult escape” carefully curated to hit all five senses combining music, comedy, culinary delights, craft libations, contemporary artwork and well, anything you want supposedly (within reason of course!). Located at the historic Del Mar Racetrack + Fairgrounds, just north of San Diego on the Southern California coast, KAABOO is easily accessible by public transit and has an abundance of high-quality lodging options nearby
Life is Beautiful September 22-24 Las Vegas, NV
Almost a festival in itself, Las Vegas is no stranger to most festival goers. The team behind Life is Beautiful, founder in 2013, strive to create an inspirational event dedicated to “helping people conquer their fears and chase their dreams”. With this year’s lineup featuring acts ranging from Bonobo to Muse to Lorde to Kaskade, there is something for everyone at Life. Art and food also take front and center as the festival takes the backdrop and landscape of Las Vegas into everything it does.
Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival September 23-24 Franklin, TN
A relative newbie on the festival circuit, Pilgrimage’s inspiration started two years after a local resident was jogging through The Park at Harlinsdale, a 230-acre century old horse farm owned by the city of Franklin. Big fans of Jazz Fest, Pilgrimage offers a diverse yet renowned lineup of rock and roll, alt-country, bluegrass, jazz, indie, gospel and more. The festival has been gathering a great reputation for its individuality and on display are local, regionally sourced wine, beer and spirits. And, don’t forget to head over to “the Bazaar” where local restaurants, antique dealers, artisans and craftsmen all have a chance to show off their goods and services.
