How do I search for a particular class?

Classes are tagged by yoga style (i.e. Vinyasa, Yin, Anusara, Ashtanga), the instructor name, difficulty level and class length.

Do I need to buy any special equipment to do yoga at home?

Nope! But we do suggest using a yoga mat. You’re sure to sweat, so a towel is helpful. Of course, make sure you always have water within reach to stay hydrated. As you progress you may want to explore using tools like yoga blocks and yoga straps but they are not required to get started.

Which classes should I take?

You should choose a class based on your relative experience with yoga, and geared toward what you hope to gain from yoga practice. Are you looking to calm down after a hectic day? Or do you need a physically-demanding workout designed to sculpt and tone your body? Do you want to have fun and try something unusual?

What should I do if I am having streaming problems?

Please try the following suggestions, but if you continue to experience streaming problems, please contact us for assistance.

  • If you are using wifi, connect directly to the modem/router and try again.
  • Try using a different internet browser, such as Safari, Google Chrome or Firefox.
  • Close out all other web applications (email, YouTube, Spotify, Skype, etc.)

What should I do if I can’t hear the instructor?

Please check all speaker connections and your master volume control. If the problem is still not resolved, contact us at or through our Contact Us form for further assistance. We will look into the cause of the problem and notify you when we find a resolution.

I have never done yoga before. What should I expect?

If you’re new to yoga, take time to review the different types of classes we offer, then choose the one that best suits your needs. Beginner yoga classes move at a slower pace and give you plenty of time to adjust to each pose. If you have experience with yoga, you’ll probably be able to adapt quickly to the intermediate class levels. We also offer advanced classes for experienced yogis.

At the end of class, expect to feel refreshed, both physically and mentally, and surprised at how an exercise that doesn’t involve running or jumping feels like a real workout!

Do I have to be flexible to do yoga?

Actually, no! Don’t be intimidated by photos of yogis twisted into human pretzels. You will enjoy the many benefits of yoga practice no matter how flexible you are today. Over time, as you continue to practice yoga, your body will become more flexible.

What is the difference between the types of yoga?

Hatha yoga is the foundation for many types of yoga and combines postures and breathing with meditation. What we call “joy yoga” is a physically active type of Vinyasa yoga where breath is coordinated with movement.

We offer a wide variety of classes for all levels of students, from first-timers to highly advanced. Some classes focus on the basics, including proper form and breathing techniques, while others integrate challenging poses and strength-training to get your heart pumping. We also offer specially designed classes for children and pregnant women.

What should I wear to do yoga?

Wear clothing that allows for comfortable movement - like yoga pants and a fitted top. Keep in mind, t-shirts tend to fall up when doing downward-facing poses. Most students prefer to practice barefoot.

I work out often. Can I take advanced classes?

Working out is different than practicing yoga. Being in good shape is helpful for any physical activity, but before attempting an advanced yoga class, where the instructor will assume you are already familiar with the fundamentals of yoga, we suggest you take a beginner class to learn the basics, including the names of the poses that more advanced classes will build upon.

Should I eat before taking a class?

Nope. You should avoid eating for at least one hour (ideally two) before a class. Doing yoga on a full stomach can lead to cramping and gas.

With My Joy Yoga, there are no obligations or long-term contracts. While we are confident you’ll enjoy the flexibility and quality of the service, we also understand if you need to take a break. Canceling your membership is easy. Just call us at 1-800-781-4312 and one of the My Joy Yoga team members will take care of your subscription.
